Interesting new research from Halifax shows that, while areas in London and the South East are continuing to dominate the country's list of most expensive places for property on a per square metre basis, there are, other areas where property fetches a high price per square metre, including Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

The average price when buying a city home in Scotland (£159,450) stands at 5.15 times gross annual average earnings – 22% below the peak of 6.57 in 2008.
